We kicked off our year at, arguably, America’s gayest conference.
Better World Collaborative met up with fellow organizers, leaders, friends, and exes at Creating Change in Washington, DC. Every year, the National LGBTQ+ Task Force hosts the political and skills-building event for the LGBTQ+ movement.
This year, BWC hosted four sessions:
Shifting the Narrative, Building the Power: A Trans-Only Deep Dive into the Trans Organizing and Narrative Shift (TONS) Project
Co-hosted with the Equality Federation
This workshop shared updates about the TONS Project and solicited feedback from a trans-only audience of advocates and activists
The Voice of Resistance: Media Skills for Trans Justice
This workshop equipped a group of trans-only attendees with knowledge about movement messaging and communications resources, as well as tools for earning media coverage
Digital Strategy Institute
Co-Hosted with Cultivate Strategies
This daylong institute covered a wide range of digital communications tools, with BWC’s section zooming in on using those tools for public advocacy and movement organizing
Let’s Talk it Out: Touchy Subjects within the Trans Rights Movement
Featuring a panel with Tre’vell Anderson, Joanna Cifredo, and Sam Ames
What role should cis parents and allies have in the trans rights movement? Is there room for compromise on athletic participation? What if another advocate or activist is just plain wrong? This workshop discussed how to approach these issues, and more, with openness and patience.
We loved sharing what we’ve found through our work — and learning from all the other brilliant queer people and organizations in attendance.

In the meantime, here’s a visual recap!
